How To Build A Successful Business – Karate Kid Wax-On, Wax-Off Lesson

How To Build A Successful Business

Lesson on how to build a successful business from Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Waxing the car, painting the fence, sanding the deck. It’s all like building a successful business really.

Good morning! Welcome to The Drive. What a strange morning.

How To Build A Successful Business - Dean Holland

I’m looking in front of me and I can see the moon. It’s like a faint moon in the sky right there. And behind me is the Sun, what a strange thing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.

Anyway… It is the start of another week. We’re on the way to Internet Profits HQ, here in the UK.

This weekend I happened to turn on the TV (I don’t watch a lot of television, to be honest). Sat down, turned on the TV, was just about to eat some food… and…

One Of My Favorite Movies Of All Time

…(in the top 10 at least, I’m sure) was on. And it was The Karate Kid.

The original Karate Kid, right? There should be only one Karate Kid… with Daniel LaRusso and Mr Miyagi. And, y’know, it made me think of, when you’re doing new things, like, in your business.

When You’re First Starting Your Business…

…for example, and you’re having to learn all this new stuff that you’ve never heard of before. And it’s like, “What on earth is it?” or “How des it all connect?” “How does this, work with with this – how does it do it?”

At all different stages of your business, you’re going to go through those moments where you, like, y’know, “Ah, I just bought Infusionsoft, a CRM system – how does all this work?” And it’s all…

New Information Going Into Your Head

How To Build A Successful Business - The Drive E110And it was kind of like when when The Karate Kid was was being taught by Mr Miyagi. He made a deal with him – he’s like, “I will train you to do karate to defend yourself, for the the tournament, and your part of the deal is… you will listen to everything I say, and you’ll do what I say, without any questions.”

He’s like, “Yes”, Daniel-san agrees. And then he turns up the next morning to start his karate lessons, what Daniel-san thinks is obviously going to be how to throw a punch, how to kick, how to a block, how to defend.

And the first thing Mr Miyagi has him do is wax the car, and he teaches the famous thing,

“Wax On, Wax Off”

And he’s like, “Okay”. Just thinks it’s a chore he’s getting him to do, in exchange for payment of training him.

Then the next day, he teaches him to sand the deck. He’s like, “Okay this is like, sand, sand.” (circular motion of hands). Next day turns up, “Paint the fence.” Next time turns up, “Paint the house (side to side)”

And he gets angry at this point, right? He’s like really frustrated. Mr Miyagi comes back from fishing and he says, “What the hell’s going on? You’ve been fishing all day!

“You Said You’d Teach Me Karate – You Ain’t Taught Me Nothing!”

He’s really peed off about it, “You’ve taught me nothing, all you’ve had me do is be your slave for the last week.”

How To Build A Successful Business - Internet ProfitsAnd then he’s about to storm off and Mr Miyagi calls him back and throws a punch at him.

And y’know, he’s like Wax On. Boom! Blocks the punch! Right? You probably know the story.

But the moral of it ultimately is…

The Magnetic Secret To Build A Successful Online Business

Successful Online Business

There’s this one small thing that you can do differently today, that will magnetically start to build a successful business online for you. This changed Dean Holland’s life 13 years ago, and it’s just happened again to him. Time to share it right here, with you…

“Something happened to me yesterday and it reminded me of something that I also did a couple of years ago, and it’s really refreshing.

So I want to actually share what this is, because I think this is going to help you get better results in your business.

For me it was one of those things that I did years ago, that finally allowed me to start seeing success. And actually…

Yesterday, I Did It Again, And It Feels Amazing!

And immediately, your audience relates with you, resonates with you, and supports you. And that’s what I want for you in your successful online business too.

So I want to share something that happened yesterday, and it really took me back. I remember when I was first starting to try and make money online, way, way back now, like 13 years ago.

There was a four-year period where…

I Just Completely Messed Up

I was buying and trying everything. Loaded up five credit cards, two bank loans, got over $60K’s worth of debt by the time I was in my mid-twenties.

But the biggest thing about that – one of the biggest lessons I learned – was during that whole time, because I was so afraid of the mess I got myself into, I didn’t tell anyone. So like, nobody knew.

It wasn’t until I got my first mentor, joined my first coaching program and got my first mentor… This guy said to me (he’s now a good friend, Alex…) he said to me, “Dean, it’s time that you were open, transparent and honest, and shared exactly what you’ve been going through with the rest of the world?”

This was a really scary thought at the time. Because I think, particularly in the ‘make money online’ space and the ‘home business’ space, everybody conveys their success. Everyone shares their wins. Nobody generally, especially 10 years ago…

No One Was Ever Talking About Failure

Nobody was sharing how bad things were for them. Nobody was sharing how much they were failing, right?

Entrepreneurial Mindset: If You Don’t Have This One Thing, Nothing Else Matters

Entrepreneurial Mindset - Dean Holland

Here’s Dean Holland revealing the specific entrepreneurial mindset he needed to adopt in order to transform his life and business from the brink of disaster, to the prosperous and expanding business he runs today for all of us at Internet Profits.

“Today I want to discuss probably one of the most important things that online entrepreneurs need to hear, but very few actually want to listen to.

The Entrepreneurial Mindset

Good morning, welcome to another episode of The Drive. So yesterday was my birthday and it sparked off a whole time of reflection and thinking.

Looking back to how much has changed, it was only nine years ago when I was at the lowest, worst point in my life.

I was 24 years old. I was over $60,000 in debt. I’d been chasing the dream of making money on the internet for four years at this stage. I had five credit cards, all pretty much maxed out, and two bank loans. And…

I Was So Afraid And Ashamed

…of what I’d done and what had gotten myself into that I didn’t tell anyone of the debts. And so I was living this complete lie!

Now yesterday, I was talking about this with our Certified Partners on a Facebook Live in our private group. I was on there for 30 40 minutes, and I was talking about all of this.

I was sharing what I’d been reflecting on, sharing the key things. And the conversation came up like…

What Was The Real Turning Point…?

What was the defining thing? And whilst I could say many different things – I spoke about it in yesterday’s Drive actually – I gave some big millionaire business tips that helped me turn my business around.

Whilst I could say all of those tips, like; getting a mentor, not going it alone, learning from people that are already doing what you want to do.

Whilst I could say all of those tangible things that can be seen, and felt, and purchased, there’s one thing above all – that without this, none of the rest of it matters.

Without this one thing… it doesn’t matter how many great mentors you get to teach you business, it won’t make a drop of difference if you don’t have this one thing…

Millionaire Business Tips: How I Generated Over $9 Million In Online Sales By Age 33

Millionaire-Business-Tips-Dean-Holland

A series of not-to-be-missed millionaire business tips shared by Dean Holland, specifically aimed at helping new business startups and online marketers…

“In today’s Drive I’m going to talk about how I’ve grown my business to generate over nine million dollars in online sales, by the time I’m 33.

I don’t really have anything specifically planned, but hopefully these will be some great tips and bits of advice for anybody starting and growing a business.

Millionaire Business Tips For Starting And Growing A Business

I started back in 2004, and for the first four years I struggled ridiculously. It ended up being like some of the darkest and scariest times in my life, because by 2008 I was in over sixty thousand dollars of debt.

And I suppose this is where my first bit of advice will come from. When you’ve figured out, or when you think you’ve got an idea of what it is you want to do – as in what direction you want to take your business.

Which Direction To Take In Your Business?

Do you want to be an affiliate marketer? Or do you have expertise and knowledge that you feel can help others, and give value to others? In which case, do you want to learn how to create your own product or course, then how to sell that?

Whichever direction it is you want to go, my first bit of advice would be, don’t try and figure it all out on your own.

There’s quite a steep learning curve, in terms of learning what to do and how to do it, to start and grow business properly. There’s a lot to learn.

The Biggest Shame In My Online Business Career

One of the biggest shames is, when I look back, I think, “Yes, I might have lost tens of thousands of dollars (which in itself is not great) but I managed to make that back many, many times over.”

So I’m not worried by that. But one thing I do look back on and think is, “What a shame that I didn’t get that advice that I’m sharing now, much earlier. What a shame I thought that figuring everything out on my own was a good idea!”

Because I can’t get the four years back that I lost. And that’s just the truth, right? They’ve come, they’ve gone!

Thankfully I did get a mentor in 2008, and that was the turning point. So that would be my first thing…

Are You Creating Content Marketing Assets In Your Business? Eg. Marketing Webinars?

content marketing assets marketing webinars

Are you creating content marketing assets in your business that will work for you for months, even years to come, to get you better results?

Are the things that you’re doing in your business; content that you create, tools that you build or utilize, assets that you create… Are they things that will work for you in your business, long term?

A lot of people create a lot of stuff, and they use it one time, once! And then it just sits there on their computer, never to be used again.

I’ve done it too… And if you think about it, it is absolutely insane! It’s crazy that you’d go through all that work.

Take a marketing webinar, for example. It can take you days, or sometimes weeks to build a high converting webinar presentation. And then people run it once, and then they move on and create something else.

And it’s like, “Why don’t you keep running it?”

One of my mentors, Russell Brunson, was telling me before, how somebody was explaining to him that with stage productions and shows – they take them on tour.

They’ll create a show, and then if it works, and it sells out, and it’s a great show… they will take it on tour, and they will take it around the country.

And sometimes if it’s really popular, then they’ll take it on tour globally!

And it’s the same with your content…

Small Business Problems? This Is Probably Your Main Business Problem

I was watching a clip last night on YouTube of the Rocky film (Rocky the boxer). And it got me thinking about something last night when I was on the drive home.

So yeah, I was in the office quite late until the early hours of this morning – until about past 1am I think it was by the time we finally got out, because I was running a coaching call.

One thing I realized, as I was driving home after the coaching call, I realized that actually the number one of the many small business problems that all of us (well, most of us) face… is actually ourselves.

Top Of All The Small Business Problems We Face… Is Ourselves

Like… you are literally your number one problem, right?

Let me explain what I mean. A lot of people doubt themselves… procrastinate… keep changing direction… keep jumping from thing, to thing, to thing. Many people fear the failure… or fear the success, and therefore hold themselves back.

And what it comes down to, ultimately, is… YOU are your biggest problem.

If you could only get out of your own way, you could no doubt have a lot greater success, or finally achieve the success that you’re looking for and achieve what it is you’re desiring out of a business.

So today, that’s what I want you to think about.

How many different areas can you to identify, as you go about your day to day life, or every time that you sit down at the computer and you’re striving to build your business…

…Start to identify all the ways in which you’re actually sabotaging your own success.

Or for those of you in the early stages…

In How Many Areas Are You Sabotaging Your Chances Of Success?

One of the biggest small business problems that I used to personally have, and where I was sabotaging my success, is I never stuck at any one thing long enough to actually make it work.

Y’know, I was always jumping from thing, to thing, to thing. I was always running around with this belief that there must be a better way, there must be an easier way…

Personal Mentor For Online Business: Are You Investing In Yourself?

Probably the most important question you could ask yourself as an entrepreneur is, “Do you invest in yourself and your business?” Specifically, “Do you have a personal mentor for online business?”

Today I’m really excited… today’s going to be an awesome day because… today I have my call with…

My Personal Mentor For Online Business; Russell Brunson

So I’m actually in Russell’s ‘Mastermind’, which is a $25,000 a year investment.

Basically the main part of that is two or three times a year we have an inner circle meet up at the Clickfunnels head offices. So I’ll actually be going out there in a few weeks.

Once a year we have what he calls the “Decade in a Day” call.

Essentially you get 30 to 60 minutes personal time with Russell, where he looks at your business and goes through everything and gives you some immediate action steps to make…

Immediate Improvements To Your Business, Revenue And Growth

Also I have him on Voxer, which is an app that you basically can send voice messages (almost like a walkie-talkie) from my phone to his phone, for any time we have questions.

Today, because I’m actually in my second year, every time you renew – you have another “Decade in a Day” call. It’s like a yearly thing.

So today, I have my “Decade in a Day” call. And I really get to show Russell what it is that we’ve been doing, where we’re at right now, and basically get some immediate advice.

He’s very intelligent – a very, very smart guy, who’s achieved some incredible things. I’ve followed him since 2009, well probably before. So I’ve seen the transition his business went through.

Which why I saw him as the perfect online business mentor to help me evolve and develop my business to where I see us in the future, and where we’re heading right now.

That’s essentially the focus for today: Are you investing in yourself, and in your business?

That Is The Biggest Key, I Would Say

If I look at myself over the years, anytime where I’ve grown, anytime we’ve achieved highest success and gone on to bigger and better things – it’s because I’ve…
